Brief History
The genesis of DASHRA lies through a group of young and active Scheduled Caste (Dalits) students, lawyers and activists. They were disturbed by the daily monitoring of the atrocities against the poor, disadvantaged and the socially marginalized people, such as the Scheduled Caste (Dalits), women, children. During the internship on the Dalit Human rights, monitoring through the secondary resources, especially during the massacre of the SCs in Bihar, the group felt the need to organize, educate and spread awareness about the Dalit Rights, Women Rights, and Child Rights as Human rights for all. They felt a need to prevent the atrocities against SCs, Women, the deprived section and the marginalized groups through awareness and capacity building of the various groups.
Even the basic rights promised in the Indian Constitution and in the International Conventions are not enjoyed by the SCs in India. Hence, they tried to agitate for the SCs’ cause based on the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the Indian Constitution. They made interventions in the local area. Further, they decided to have DASHRA as a Registered Human Rights Organization for the promotion and protection of the Human Rights in the northern state of India.
DASHRA is registered under the Society Registration Act 1860, Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) under and socioeconomic, cultural and educational category and sections 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
